About this guide and how we research candidates

Volunteers research every contested race and measure directly: public filings, voting records, community group positions, and direct outreach to campaigns. We rate every entry, including when we land on No Recommendation, and we publish our reasoning for all of it.

Candidates and ballot measure committees were not given the opportunity to pay for preferential treatment and were not shown these recommendations before they were published.

City Council (At-Large)

Cynthia GonzalezRecommended

There are three at-large City Council seats up for election this November. Cynthia Gonzalez and Cynthia Romo are running together as a slate and LA Forward recommends you vote for both of them.

Cynthia Gonzalez was first elected to Cudahy City Council in 2022 and was appointed Mayor by Council last December. She grew up nearby in Huntington Park, the daughter of immigrant parents. She was the first in her family to graduate from college. She’s lived in the city of Cudahy for a decade, where she’s raising two daughters who attend local public schools. After serving as a school principal and Director of Schools in LAUSD, she currently works as Director of UCLA’s Principal Leadership Institute

Her work on council has focused on ensuring that every resident has access to the basic needs and opportunities that allow our community to thrive, including safe neighborhoods, clean and reliable drinking water, quality educational opportunities, responsive City services, and meaningful partnerships that bring resources directly to Cudahy.

She’s worked to expand educational opportunities for youth, strengthen partnerships with the Los Angeles Unified School District, nonprofit organizations, and community agencies, and improve the quality of life for residents through initiatives such as Keep Cudahy Clean, the expansion of the City's mobile app, neighborhood beautification efforts, and advocacy to address our community's water quality challenges in partnership with State Senator Lena Gonzalez. She’s also championed programs that foster inclusion and belonging, including support for the Hot Wheels wheelchair basketball tournament and Angeles Por Siempre Unidos, which provides programming and opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities.

She's been a consistent advocate for civil and constitutional rights, taking a strong public stand in support of due process, freedom of speech, sanctuary protections, and greater accountability in law enforcement

She’s endorsed by CA Working Families Party and dozens of elected officials, especially local progressives including current councilmembers Elizabeth Alcantar Loza, Amanda Gomez, and Vice Mayor Daisy Lomeli Cudahy.

Cynthia Romo and Cynthia Gonzalez are the only candidates endorsed by the LA Democratic Party in this race.
